At the end of September, twenty five Year 6 pupils and three members of staff, took part in a Big Sleep. They built structures using cardboard boxes and slept on the floor of the academy hall. The feast was purely water and biscuits; with no treats available! This event was to raise money for the Sea View Project but also to encourage awareness of the plight of homeless people; their lack of comforts and privacy.
One young person complained that he hadn’t slept a wink but others quickly commented, “Well what do you think it must be like for somebody sleeping on the street.”
Sponsors were very generous and the academy raised over £250 for the charity. Children and adults commented that they would do it again but they enjoyed going back to their own beds!
