Chief Executive and Accounting Officer
Mr Mark Talbot
Mark Talbot is DCAT’s Chief Executive. He has been in senior roles in Eastbourne, Hastings and Berkshire for over 15 years. He also has experience of working to support other schools. As former Principal of St Catherine's College in Eastbourne, he has a passion for church school education. He leads a child-centred culture with a belief that every child can achieve his/her God-given potential. This, along with other successes, led to St Catherine's College being judged as outstanding for its Christian leadership and distinctiveness as well as being heavily oversubscribed.
Chief Operating Officer and Company Secretary
Mr Darren Carpenter
Darren Carpenter is DCAT’s Chief Operating Officer; responsible for the operations of the academies within the Trust and those converting. Darren is also DCAT's Company Secretary.
He has worked in school finance and School Business Management for a number of years in several schools including special, primary and secondary phases. As well as having experience of maintained schools and academies, he has also worked in independent sector schools, with responsibilities including procuring and managing services. He has provided School Business Management consultancy to a number of maintained and independent schools in the UK and further afield and held governor roles in a number of schools and academies over a ten year period.
Head of Improvement
Mr Beruk Berhane
Beruk Berhane is DCAT's Head of Improvement; accountable to the Trust for the educational performance of DCAT academies. As such, he has line management responsibility for the head teachers in their allocated academies and represents the Trust at LGB meetings.
Beruk has worked in schools for over 17 years. He has a proven track record of school improvement as a headteacher and within the Trust. His subject specialism is mathematics and he also has expertise in special educational needs and pastoral care.
Head of Safeguarding
Mrs Kerry Guppy
Kerry Guppy is DCAT's Head of Safeguarding based in Eastbourne. Kerry has worked with vulnerable children and families for over 25 years within the local authority, voluntary sector and the Academy Trust. She holds a lifelong belief that safeguarding should be the highest priority for all professionals working with children and families and should be the driving force behind all decisions.
Kerry holds a BA in Education and a Masters degree in Advanced Child Protection and Safeguarding. She has driven improvements in safeguarding at St Catherine's College through high quality support and training and has set up a network for Designated Safeguarding leaders. Kerry believes in the inherent value of each and every child and their right to be supported through their education.
Trust Leader of English
Mrs Katie Ward
Katie Ward is DCAT's Trust Leader of English and based in Eastbourne. Katie has taught in all key stages, KS1-4, is a KS2 Local Authority writing moderator and has an outstanding record for driving high attainment in English writing. She is currently Head of Key Stage 3 at St Catherine’s College.
Mrs Sally Jane Poole
Sally Jane Poole is DCAT’s Executive Assistant. She has worked in local government, public relations, school finance and as a teacher [QTS KS1/2] having taught in both maintained and private schools in Brighton and Hove.
Sally supports the CEO, Senior leaders and Trustees whilst overseeing the running of the Centre Office in Hove; aiding communication with the academies and Diocese with responsibilities for compliance, governance and policy.
ES Clerk to Governors
Charles Shaw is Clerk to Governors for St Leonards CEP Academy. He has been in senior roles in the third sector for many years, most recently as HR Director and Company Secretary for a national charity. He also has experience of schools governance and was a governor and chair of Governors for a primary school. He holds a first degree, an MBA and professional qualifications.
